Hello all I am finally on board with you.  Looks like I know most of you TEFers.

I had my first problem with a TEF 25 and/or laptop last week.  During the sweep there was a significant distortion, buzz or sawtooth waveform sound riding on the sweep.  I eliminated the sound system as the problem on site by using a handheld battery powered Neutrik Signal Generator that sounded clean.  (Although it could be an AC power grounding thing I guess.)  Called GoldLine from the site but never got through.  Maybe a holiday week off.

I haven't got to troubleshootong in the lab yet but will this weekend or Monday afternoon.  I wanted to go ahead and post this so I could get ahead of the game.  Anyone seen this before?

Plans are to use another computer to confirm the TEF 25 and also look at the signal on an O-scope.  I have tried several USB ports on the laptop with no change.

Thanks for any insight.

This has happened to me before.  In my case it was because the external TEF25 power supply was not working.  The USB power is usually not sufficient when you are using a condenser mic.  Try running sweeps without the mic plugged in.

Actually the distorted sweep sounds to me like a problem we have encountered when the TEF is set to 96Ksampeling rate.  There have been some problems with some computers, so we are not recommending using the 96K feature until we figure it all out.  Steve is working on this...

2 things to watch for when using 96k... sometimes you get a distorted sweep,
and sometimes there is a 23ms (or so) error in the ETC

One final word, when posting ,if you would please include the versions of core and software you are running and any other info you might have , it will really help us find the problems.  Thanks!

Well it was the 96K sampling rate.  Lou set me straight when I finally called in for help.  A real question now is how did it change when all settings were locked?  All worked well the last time I used things.  I did an MLS measurement first and wondered if it reset during that?
