I'm getting an error when trying to use my brand new unit.

The preamp is not responding to the software.  I have shot an email to tech support also but assume they are off for the weekend.  Can this be anything other then a DOA?

I've got lights on at the 48V and output locations and the POWER LED is dim at best regardless of whether I plug in just usb or if I use the supplied power adapter.

Please help, thanks!

Hi Jon, Welcome to TEF talk.  Im sure it is not DOA.  It is much easier talking you through this than doing it in print, so send me an email at djoneseasi@mac.com with your phone number and Ill call you.  Meanwhile when you pull down the connection menu, do you see the option for USB? If not then you need to install the UPG software that should have been a part of what Goldline sent you. That has the USB drivers in it.  If all that is installed correctly, the next step is to use an externally powered USB hub and see if it works then.  Some laptops do not provide enough current in the USB ports to run the the box.  I assume that you have tried all the USB ports on your computer.  I have a computer with 5 ports, only one will run the TEF.

Good luck,

Doug

YES!

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to see that there are active responsive members on the forum!  Being new to the scene this is very reassuring.

Doug I"m going to try a few more USB ports and then shoot you an Email if I don't have any luck..  That does make sense.  What does not make sense the wall wart that they sent me not fixing this issue.

Success!

So the sixth USB port was the charm.  My remaining question is... Do I still need the powered USB splitter?  I understand the concept and know that it will fix the problem with my laptop but shouldn't the included AC adapter that was shipped with the unit get around this need.  It seems to be doing nothing.

At least I know that the main software, hardware and mic are intact I just can't go portable yet.  What about the AC adapter?  Hopefully I'll have some more exciting posts in the near future.

Thanks Doug!

Hi Jon, Glad it works!   The wall wart only augments the phantom power to allow you to use mics that could not be powered from USB, ie that draw more current than USB can deliver.

Yea, I learned that yesterday.  I guess that for now I will be tethered to a wall when my powered USB port arrives from Amazon, but at least I'll be able to leave my desktop.  Hopefully this does not end up in me having to purchase another laptop to be able to use the rig untethered.

Not the end of the world but not optimal either.

Jon,
Goldline makes a gizmo that plugs into 2 of your USB ports, and draws power for the unit from both.  I have not tried it personally, but Im told that it works well for the problem that you have...

I'll certainly look into it. I'm currently waiting on a 4-Port Powered hub that has been sitting nine miles away at a post office in the suburbs for three days now.  Perhaps in another week I'll finally be able to get some testing done.  I should have just bought one at a big box retailer but amazon usually comes through with quick shipping and they had the one that I wanted.  Guess that I"ll just have to enjoy the nice weather over the holiday weekend instead.

Happy 4th

Well, the powered hub worked. Presto I'm in business. Two level calibrations and evaluation for the need of an EQ in systems that were unfortunately power by receivers rather then separates.  So the chance of these clients dropping the cash for the upgrade to separate pre/pro, amps, and multiple EQs isn't likely.  But, after showing them the 1/24th resolution results of the sub I might get them to step into some sort of parametric EQ to correct at least that.

Anyone have any recommendations on EQs?  I've been trying to find the Goldline Programmable EQ on their website but have had no luck.  Certainly looking for a simple parametric EQ for subs that  could use reliably for systems with limited abilities such as those with A/V Receivers.

Thanks all
