I was out in the field yesterday attempting to measure the acoustical characteristics of a space with my TEF25. Initially, I noticed that in all of my Time Response measurements the direct sound occurred in negative time, generally in the neighborhood of -65 ms. The microphone was approximately 45' from the source, so I moved it within 5' and repeated the test and got similar results, with the direct sound still appearing around -65 ms. Making multiple tests without changing ANY settings yielded inconsistent results.

Then I connect the TEF's output to its input and still I get varied results with direct sound in negative time and a high noise floor. I have verified each cable that I have used to be in good condition and switched USB cables and reinstalled and updated Soundlab (version 6.8.5) with no luck.

I have included an .etc file and a screen capture of 3 consecutive tests where the conditions remained the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi,
Im not sure exactly what is going on, but I did notice that in your "issues.etc" file, you are in loopback mode. Was that intentional?  The only time I have seen time errors is when users were using 96k sampling.  Were you?
If you want to call me sometime and talk this through, Im happy to do so!
Good luck,

Doug

Doug,

I have figured out my problem. I have been running Soundlab/TEF on my MacBook Pro using Parallels with Windows XP - this appears to be the problem. I hooked up the TEF to my Windows Vista desktop and was able to achieve proper results.

I guess its off to Boot Camp for me!

Eric
